Keeping your pool area in top condition for summer

Summer has arrived and with the festive season approaching, it’s time to wind down from work and relax with your family. One of the best ways to do this is to light up a braai and spend the day by the pool.

It’s important to make the most of the summer days by keeping your pool area in top condition. Here are a few tips to keep it clean, your family safe and the sunny days memorable.

Keep the garden free of debris

Cleaning the garden is probably one of the last things that you want to do on a warm summer day, but it’s important to clear any debris from trees and bushes that may blow into the pool. Otherwise, branches could get stuck in your pool filter and clog the circulation.

Vacuum the pool regularly

Some of the garden debris may be difficult to reach with a leaf skimmer. That’s where the pool vacuum comes in handy! You can either vacuum the pool on a weekly basis or get an automated vacuum that runs at regular intervals. Your creepy may not get to the bigger pieces so consider a vacuum extension.

Clean the pool filter

There’s little as refreshing as diving into a clear, blue pool. A green, leaf-filled pool can be a major buzzkill on a summer day. The pool filter works hard to keep the pool in top condition, so make sure that you clean the pool filter regularly to remove debris and increase the flow of water.

Clear clutter

It’s normal to accumulate clutter around the pool during the colder months of the year. Items that don’t fit into the home and that can resist the elements are placed outside, which will start to look messy quickly. If you have outdoor furniture that you may not need at the moment, simply place them into storage to use again later.

Find and repair leaks

This should be a routine habit before the summer holidays. It’s easiest to identify leaks when the water is undisturbed so do so before you take that first dip. There are several ways to find a leak, such as a bucket test (of which the details will come up with a quick Google search). If there are any leaks, then you should get a professional to help repair it.

Store chemicals safely

If you have children and animals in your home, then it’s best to keep the chemicals safely stored out of reach. Once you are done using them, make sure that you return the chemicals to a safe space.

We offer a variety of unit sizes in conveniently located stores across the country to store your outdoor items during summer. Our flexible lease agreements mean that you can keep your belongings safe and secure for as long as you need, without cluttering the pool area.
