Stor-Age Announces Opening of Brooklyn Store in Pretoria
Stor-Age is pleased to announce the recent opening of Stor-Age Brooklyn.
The purpose-built Stor-Age Brooklyn is a modern, attractive, multi-storey self storage facility, offering upwards of 7 000 m² of self storage space and offering over 650 units ranging in size between 3 and 30 m². The facility provides ample parking and 24hr security, along with a modern, functional customer interface. The new store has excellent visibility to commuters accessing Brooklyn, Waterkloof, Hatfield and Sunnyside.
Situated on one of the most prominent corners in Pretoria, Justice Mohammed (Charles) and Jan Shoba (Duncan) streets, the site is in close proximity to the business and retail hub of Brooklyn. Brooklyn is home to a number of legal, financial and professional practices along with the popular Brooklyn Mall and Design Quarter.
Collaborative approach to development -
In line with our desire to seamlessly integrate into the communities in which we develop new properties and in genuinely seeking to add value to the existing built environment through adopting a complimentary design agenda, we adopted a collaborative approach for the development of this flagship asset.
Prior to securing the acquisition of the site we liaised extensively with local council to gauge whether there would be support for our product type. Once we had the full support of council, we then entered into extensive and ongoing discussions with the Brooklyn Home Owners Association (‘HOA’). Working together with both architectural and town planning representatives of the HOA, together we came up with a design which met the strict guidelines imposed by the HOA.
Design and architectural theme -
The final design sees a clean, contemporary building which is truthful to its purpose. Floor heights are at minimum requirements to reduce the overall height of the building. The scale of the building is softened by the layering of elements and careful consideration of material, texture and colour.
From a sustainability perspective, Stor-Age Brooklyn is fitted throughout with LED lighting and motion sensors, and all irrigation requirements will be met through the harvesting of natural ground water from below the building’s basement.
The signage on the building has been significantly reduced in size and impact to blend in with the environment, with the most visible signs situated at a low level where they are integrated with the landscaping.
The external finishes of the building sees us working with a palette of predominately white textured plaster with inset panels of light to mid grey rough stippled plaster. Signage on red backings and dark grey louvered screens are the visible vestiges of the Stor-Age brand.
