Shan’s Accessories: Making ordinary cars extraordinary with quality modifications

We recently caught up with Shaneev at his Stor-Age unit in Edenvale to learn more about his trendy car modification business. This is what he had to say.

Tell us a bit about Shan’s Accessories?
We specialise in vehicle accessories for VW, Nissan, Ford Ranger, Mercedez, and others. Basically what we’re here to do is give your car some style. Everybody's car represents a part of their personality and how they feel. Some people like a front lip, others like a boot spoiler or vinyl kits and fender arches, and we do all this.
How did the COVID-19 pandemic affect your business?
COVID-19 did have an impact on us, but through Stor-Age we’ve managed to do pretty well. A lot of people are taking more notice of their vehicles than they did before as they are sitting at home, and we are still prospering as a result.
You store a lot of your stock with Stor-Age, how has this helped your business?
As a small business, it’s important to start off small and minimise overhead costs as much as possible. With Stor-Age, we managed to store a lot more accessories for vehicles while still keeping costs down. As a result, we managed to expand the product offering that we have.
What have you found to be the most challenging part of starting your own business?
One of the biggest challenges is the South African economy. Being as low as it is, the GDP in South Africa is not performing well. There should be a lot more people with jobs in the country and as a result, it has a domino effect on local businesses. With the help of Stor-Age and other facilities that are structured for this particular economy, we are able to overcome this.
Where do you see Shan’s Accessories in the next 5 years?
I still plan to be here, I just plan to expand my space like I have done in the past from one unit to two, and we will possibly have 10 by then!
